Pledge isn't removing the problem, only covering it up. You need to kill the source of mold and mildew. There are several products on the market that will kill and remove mold. If the items you are speaking of are color sensitive (upholstery) you should pick a cleaner that is mild, citrus based. Otherwise diluted household bleach or hydrogen peroxide will work in no time. Try it first (regardless of product) in an inconspicuous spot on the item to test for color fastness so that there is no discoloration.

I'm not sure what you mean by "rubber-rich" but Hints from Heloise says to run them through washer with 1 cup of white vinegar. If can't run thru washer you could probably cover with water/vinegar in tub. All products are temporary but vinegar works better & is less expensive.

Lemon oil - and you can buy it in many grocery stores or kmart or walmart's.
