The "Marvelous" Marvellettes did that one! However, that wasn't their original name! Nor is that the correct title of the song - its actually "Beachwood 4-5-7-8-9."

The group, which was formed at a high school in Inkster, Michigan in 1960, was originally known as The Casinyets, a contraction of "can't sing yet." They originally got together to enter a talent contest, the first three places were to audition for Tamla (a Motown subsidiary) talent scouts. The Marvels as they were then called, finished fourth, however, one of their teachers put them in contact with a Tamla producer who liked what he saw.

He changed their name to the Marvelettes, and signed them to a contract. One member of the group had co-written a song that was to become their first and biggest hit in 1961. Please Mr. Postman launched a career that would see the group put twenty-three songs in the Top One Hundred before disbanding. The song rocketed up the charts to number one and remained on the charts for fifteen weeks. It was later covered by the Beatles.

The group withstood a number of personnel changes, and continued to put songs in the Top Forty throughout the Sixties. While most of the other Motown groups were successful in the UK, the Marvelettes had just one Top Twenty hit there. Even though the group disbanded in 1970, there are still a number of groups touring today as the Marvelettes, none of which include any original members.
