Wow! I can only imagine how you must be feeling. If you have kids and didn't get their gifts waiting 'for the bonus', you must be really stressed out.
Unfortunately, Christmas Bonuses are not required to be given to workers. Yet, the news of mega million dollar bonuses for Wall Street and CEOs abound!
I know that others here may be trying to put things into prespective by pointing out some of the serious ills of the world, and the poor people who are suffering. I can understand how they feel and why they write what they do, BUT to be used to getting a Christmas Bonus can really screw you around financially for many, many months!
When an employee is used to getting a Christmas Bonus, and was told that the 'company regularly gives Christmas bonuses when you are hired, can cause a person to carry debt until the end of the year to pay off with the Christmas Bonus. . .OR Heaven Forbid, use credit cards to do the Christmas Shopping knowing that they can pay the bill with the Christmas Bonus.
If you have indebted yourself knowing that the Christmas Bonus was coming, perpare yourself for a very stressfull time trying to pay the bills!
It is really awfull if this situation has put you behind the Eight Ball financially, and you must take any and all steps to correct this situation.
If you were hoping to use the money to buy gifts for friends and family, well, your Christmas will be a 'bit skinny'. . .but what can you do?
Many people used to get Christmas Bonuses and don't anymore. The Corporations generally don't care much about their employees when they behave like this. The Managers must have known about this probably since before Thanksgiving. . . Yet, if they told the employees, moral would drop! Now what is the moral going to be like after the New Year!
This was a 'bad judgement call' on the part of the higher ups, and if they weren't doing well enough to give Christmas Bonuses this year, they should have let it be known long before 3 days before Christmas. If some big account hasn't paid them, and this was a sudden situation, I think the employees would be aware of it.
I know how you must be feeling, but please try to have a Merry Christmas inspite of this!
Keep your chin up!
And Merry Christmas to you and whole family! And have a Happy New Year too!
This is a very dissappointing situation, but one that is not permanent and can be easily gotten over. But still, for employees to be used to getting a bonus, and not told until 3 days before Christmas is really a slap in the face. Unfortunately, I don't think there is anything you can do about this.
Merry Christmas! Try to enjoy yourself for your family's sake.

If they HAD been giving bonuses or gift cards, then telling the employees a few days before DOES stink. I would just assume that the company is NOT giving out anything! My own company is on a pay freeze - my second year with the company and no raise. So - I'm looking around. As for bonuses? Another poster mentioned that the CEO's and Lord/Lady high muckety-mucks are probably getting THEIRS.
Look out for yourself in that department and just have a nice exchange with your co-workers. We all exchanged cards (regular and e-cards), cookies, and the like. That made it fun. Grab the fun and joy where you can, hon, and a safe, happy, and healthy holiday to us all!

Get away with this?
Sigh. A christmas bonus is just that. A bonus. Not something you should expect or figure into your annual income.
At this point, hubby should just coast and look for something else. If the company would do this in this manner, then they are not a company you want to work for.

Welcome to Corporate America. Its all about the company. You know what we got this year? an email card. Not even a real Christmas card. Profits are all that matter. We had a meeting at work the other day where they were talking about profits. A new "innovation" caused 200 people to lose their jobs. It was presented as a really good things because it brought in several million dollars to the company. I could go on and on.

I artwork for a countrywide courier business employer, this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days we've been given £a hundred Christmas bonus which replaced into greater like £sixty seven as quickly as tax and NI were taken off. The worst Christmas bonus I even have heard of is Tesco, in all possibility the main important retail business employer in the united kingdom making billions of pounds earnings a three hundred and sixty 5 days, and a chum of mine who works on the checkouts advised me that they've been given a e book of vouchers to apply instore. The vouchers have been of the type '£2 off once you spend £20', or '£5 once you spend £25 on yuletide decorations'. Cheapskates.

The sad truth is, most big businesses don't really give a tin sh** about their employees. Granted, they aren't obliged to give out bonuses at all, but to wait until 3 days before Christmas to announce it is just plain inconsiderate. They should have at least given people time to react and prepare. In the eyes of corporate management in America today, people don't matter nearly as much as numbers.

You have learned a valuable lesson. Never trust or depend on a company. They are there for only ONE reason, PROFIT at any expense!!! Employees are just part of the machinery as far as they are concerned. I was aware of that at 19 years old. So, I found a way to get away from that BS and got a career as a Realtor and succeeded far beyond my expectations. I was responsible for withholding my own taxes, my earnings and my own health insurance. I was totally independent and I loved it and retired at 38 years of age. Fu*ck the big corporations!!!!

Yeah I know, its rough. I read articles everyday about this kind of tragedy. People going with out food till they starve, split ends, going blind for the lack of a single pill, no christmas party for employees, communities of people who are bombed, strafed, raped, beaten, shot, stabbed for the sake of their supposed betters needs, slighted by the boss, limbs blown off by land mines, too fat to get into last years swim suit, children shot to death at a checkpoint, can't go to the Christmas party because of a cold or flu, shrapnel destroys your husbands brain, no decent shoes for the prom, no clean drinking water for your baby. Hang in there. Things can only get better from here. Thanks for looking for a sec or two through my eyes. Want to see more? Lets establish a justice system world wide that will protect people from real oppression, aggression and destruction. Better yet lets make it possible for people to go anywhere on earth and not feel threatened by anything more sinister than the occasional natural disaster, accident or disease. Make sure everyone gets all the REAL education they can handle. Stop killing the neighbor. Cmon people. Its not that difficult and think about how happy you will be when everyone on earth is relatively tranquil and happy. Okay, thats enough out of me.

Bonuses are usually discretionary based at all major companies. There is no requirement to ever provide a bonus. Unfortunately, many of us go year after year relying on them, and when they disappear, or are less than expected, it is disappointing. Hope your holidays are still special!

i'm sorry, that really bites. my husband is self-employed and we don't get bonuses so i understand. i agree that big companies should inform their employees way more in advance than 3 days before christmas. most people count on the bonuses as part of their income. merry christmas anyway
