I’m still debating over saying something like that... I don’t want to come across as cold and uncaring to the person, but that’s all that my stupid brain can think of...

It's ok. We all have to face the fact that no matter how bad things are, life will go on. I have told people that, and I have been told that. If you're not comfertable with saying that, then say something like "everything is gonna be alright" or "soon we will both look back at this and laugh". If thay are your real friends, then they will know you're not cold and uncaring and you didn't mean to be cold and uncaring. Sometimes we have to look beyond the words, and look at the meaning.

Yes, after my divorce. I found that this is very true in most cases. In the event of a death, the world doesn't stop, and life does go on around you. The few people affected, will pause for a moment, but then continue on life's journey, joining the rest of the world.

It is not much of a consolation when someone is really hurting, I am afraid. I have been told that, and it didn't help at all.

Something that I wish was said to me when my life was rough was "it will get better, and it will be great again, but I will be here for you no matter what happens".

I think that this would have helped.

I have told and been told....and I know it is true. Sometimes those sayings are all we can say. I know how you feel because when I say that it seems hollow. Maybe you could write a poem of your own. But sayings like "life will go on" are popular for a good reason :)

Yes and Yes When i broke up with my ex bf, it was on good terms, it just wasn't meant to be, he wasn't ready to commit (after 8 yrs) and i was. I told him "life will go on" among other things. But i wasn't very happy about it so whenever i was upset my friends and my sister told me that same thing.

You know what, some idiot said that to me after my cat was killed. I was devastated and missed him so much.

I thought it was very inappropriate and cold.

some people really don't think before they blurt out words "they think " will make you feel better.

I think a more appropriate thing would have been " I know it's hard, and your life will move on with special memories of Morgan"

RIP MORGAN.

Yes and yes, I don't do it anymore, there better ways to help people heal their wounds. I try to listen more whatever they have to say and really pay attention on what is coming out of their emotions,

Many, many times......the other common one is "Time heals all wounds". I don't think it's cold, just that it doesn't help much at the time of being said. Just offer support and say you'll be there, if needed.
