My dempsey is swimmijng at the top of my tank. It looks like he is gasping for air. I have tried 50% water change. What do I do now?
Tank is 90 gal. with various cichlids and plecos.

pH is to low it should be at 7.0 get a pump and air stone and buy proper pH 7.0 (that's the brand name) in the powder form because powder works instantly while liquids take up to 24 hours and i would also buy a water testing kit do that and your fish will be fine also you should only do a 20% water change

If all of the other fish in the tank are fine then I doubt it would be an issue of water quality. It might be aggression issues - In a cichlid tank aggression is common and a fish continually picked on tends to go to the only place in the tank not considered valuable real estate - the top of the water. Look for signs of damage to the fish like frayed fins and observe the tank carefully for signs of aggression. If this is the case you should move him to a quarantine tank soon. If you are sure it isn't aggression then it's still a good idea to quarantine tank and observe him on his own.

Test the water for ammonia and nitrite. Also check the temperature.

How long have you had your dempsey? Is he showing any other problems related to ich or injury?
