Although I don't agree with the commercialism of the season, I can see that people tend to have a need to express giving and are really looking for an excuse to celebrate in the winter. They won't just quit buying all the stuff the marketers make available. So the key is to start a fad... a sweeping fad. Make it really cool to not wrap presents. Make it really cool to give to charity or donate time together with your loved one at a shelter or maybe at a retirement home. Make it cool to plant 10 trees for every one you use in your home as a decoration or to keep your decoration live and potted. I really would love to see this holiday become more green than red in my lifetime.

Greetings:
I don't mind the greens in the house... they smell absolutely wonderful and in the United States there is plenty of land and people who make a very fine living from growing greens, just as do people who grow tulips and azeleas, mint, and rubber trees... so I would not scotch their business. It is up to people if they want to boycott such things.
I also would not end the gift giving. I like to give things to people. It makes me feel very good, and it makes me think about them in a way that is particular to gift-giving. Also I like getting gifts. I got some very nice things this year that make me very happy, things that I would not have thought of for myself.
I don't believe in shutting down on life... I do not want people to be hurt.
I do have a quote:
"In all religions, birthdays of great personalities
are celebrated but the ideals for which they lived
are not remembered and followed. If you do not care to follow their teachings, the celebrations lose their meaning and become artificial observances. It is not doing justice to the good people whose birthdays are being celebrated.
Christ taught people to love all beings and serve all with compassion. It is only by practising these ideals that one can truly celebrate His birthday.
The Divinity within should be refelcted in every action. The seat of Truth is in your heart. Worship means loving others with your full heart. You must live in love and lead a life of selfless service based on love. This is the only right way of celebrating the birth of Christ."

I would put a limit on the amount of money you can spend on any one person, don't know how you could police it though.
Good question.

I WOULD BAN IT... PERIOD... It is just ridiculous to be running around like maniacs, following storeowners and merchants like zombies to buy their goods and waste most of your money. If you want to be nice to somebody, be it ALWAYS, EVERYDAY.
