Despite the heated debate about tank size, your fish is probably fine. Optimally, fancy goldfish should have 10 gallons per fish, but they're extremely adaptive, and will be fine on less.
As to the filtration system, the answer is no. You don't need an airpump, and it would probably be stressful for the fish to have that much current in a small aquarium.

You need a bigger tank, goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons each when babies and 20+ when they are adults. Once the fish are in an appropriate sized tank then you can think about that. But as long as the filter disrupts the surface of the water enough to allow for gas exchange then no you do not need an airpump but most goldfish do like to play in the bubbles and it makes the tank look nicer.
Who said anything about eggs and breeding? To keep a goldfish alive and healthy they need a certain amount of space and a 2.5 gallon tank isn't enough. They are very dirty fish so they need a large tank and a very good filter. They grow large up to 8-12 inches for the fancy types so they need to space to swim, if they don't they will become stunted and their organs will continue to grow until it kills the fish, that is if they don't die from being poisoned to death first. Goldfish have a life span of 20+ years but usually only live for a couple because people don't give them what they need. It would be like buying a dog and keeping it in a closet, what is the point of buying a pet to slowly kill it?
Oh and they are not like bettas. Bettas are a labyrinth fish that have the ability to breath air, goldfish are not labyrinth fish and do not have that special organ. When you see a fish gasping for air at the surface it is struggling to breathe and it doing all it can to get some oxygen to pass over its gills.

When use a 30 gallon filtration system in a 10 gallon aquarium -You have a great chance of getting your fish stuck to the filtration intake.

If i were you I wouldn't worry about adding bubbles to this aquarium. Its much too small for the hassle. If i were you i would buy your fish a 5 gallon right away. Even better would be a 10 gallon.
If your really broke its not a huge deal right away but it will be within a year. Your goldfish will grow very quickly and will be much to large for the thing it is in now.
You can buy a 10 gallon set up with filter, hood, and booklet for 30-40$ at walmart or petsmart. Then you'll need gravel. 10$.
This would really be best for your fish. Then you could get bubbles. So try to get your fish into a bigger home as soon as possible. He may only be an inch long now but just wait. He'll grow right before your eyes.
goldfish are great pets! take good care of him. and have a merry christmas! oh wait, if you got any money for christmas maybe you should invest that in getting him a better tank? lol : )

The tank is TOO SMALL!
Baby-juvenile goldfish NEED 10 gallons PER fish for fancy goldfish such as orandas, ryukins, moors, fantails, ect. Baby to juvenile long bodied goldfish NEED 20 gallons PER fish (comets, commons, shubunkins, feeder goldfish).
Adults NEED 50 gallons PER fish because they get 12-15 inches.
They also need ALOT of filtration because they excrete so much ammonia and they need ALOT of dissolved oxygen. So to answer your question, if you have a good filter then you dont need extra aeration.
The goldfish you have is gonna DIE if you dont move him to a bigger tank. Goldfish have lifespans of 30 plus yrs. No fish grows to its enviroment. The outside stops growing but the insides continue to grow wich will kill the fish.
