Closest estimate for the birth of Jesus is mid-to-late spring of the year 4 BC.

Mike is right. The Catholic church decided in the middle ages to "officially" peg the year and date of Christ's birth at December 25th, 0001 to convert the pagans who were having a Mardi Gras like celebration on this date anyway.

Jesus of Nazareth was probably born in late spring (May?) a few yeas before we got the Ano Dominei thing going (year of our Lord). So he's about 2010 years and 7 or 8 months.

However, faith is what you believe, so don't let history and facts smudge your holiday judgement. Just say he's 2005 today, and have a good time. If you're not exactly right I'm sure you'll be forgiven.
