Pastor Billy says: it all has to do with the calendar. The Eastern Christian Churches (Greek Orthodox, Russian, Antiochian etc.) all follow the Julian calendar named for an emperor. The Western Christian Churches all follow the Gregorian calendar named for a bishop of Rome, a Pope. The old calendar did not match the celestial year and therefore was very quickly always out of whack. The same thing happens with the ancient Jewish calendar, they always need to add extra days to correct the imbalance. The new calendar in the West helped to keep time and the seasons better with minimal correction.

in case you're Orthodox, you celebrate Christmas on December twenty 5th - by using the Orthodox calendar. This calendar differs from the standard or Gregorian calendar by using roughly 14 days that's why your December twenty 5th is resembling our January seventh.
