Aborigines aren't the oldest ethnic group on Earth, but they are one of the oldest intact cultures outside of Africa. They colonized Australia between 70,000 to 40,000 years ago. They were probably a branching of the beachcomber tribes that left East Africa and settled along the coasts of India and Southeast Asia. It is theorized that these people made their way down the Southeast Asian island chains during a period of glaciation, which would have caused sea levels to drop, allowing them to simply island hop down the chains on crude boats, or perhaps even by walking on land bridges, until they finally reached Sahul (New Guinea and Australia were one continent at the time).

Using mitochondrial DNA analysis, melanesians and Australian aborigines are farther from Sub-Saharan Africans than any other group. In fact, a Swede is much closer to a Sudanese.

People living in Austrailia before European colonization were originally from Africa just like everyone else on the planet. They aren't mystical or magical. They're people.
