It is not Christmas..............it cant be in other date than 25th december.
The celebration that almost all castillian speakers make in 6th january is the coming of the REYES MAGOS (magician kings) the 3 that travelled along middle east to bring the presents to Jesus.
In the spanish and latin american culture, it is still celebrated , giving gifts to the kids, in name of the Reyes Magos.......They are a latin version from the anglosaxon "Santa", but more according with christian beliefs. The Reyes.........are named in the history of Jesus.

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!

That would be the original date of Christmas. Dec 25th was a pagan festival and once the Romans turned to Chtristianity they wanted to eliminate all pagan festivals. The easiest way to do this was by moving Christmas, which is exactly what they did, from Jan 6th (the date the Christian Orthodox churches still celebrate Xmas) to Dec 25th. That is also the reason for the 12 days of Xmas - the 12th day is Jan 6th - the original Xmas day!
We still keep some of the pagan customs in modern Xmas, such as mistletoe and holly.
(PS the Romans also did the same to the pagan festival on Oct31st and made it into what we now know as Hallowe'en)

Yes Puerto Ricans are US citizens 1.yes we have US passports and we can travel through the US with only an ID 2.We can work over there just like if we were moving through PR 3.We speak Spanish at home, school and work, over 50% of Puerto Ricans don't know English (shocking though), but we have an English class at our school that its required and we get better jobs if we know English and some words are mixed between English and Spanish in our every day talk.

The tradition of Los Reyes Magos in Puerto Rico is taken very seriously. For centuries Puerto Rican children have celebrated Los Reyes in the same manner as their grandparents did when they were children. January 6 is called Epiphany and is traditionally the day in which the Magi arrived bearing gifts for the Christ child. Even to this day in Hispanic countries throughout the world, January 6 is the day that children receive their Christmas gifts, in commemoration of the Magi's visit.
