We were actually taught this in high school, and it works for girls, too. I think the arm span always works out a little larger than your height, so I don't know if you'll grow any more, but since you have a four inch difference in measurements, I guess it's possible. :)

I am 51 and my arm span is 6 feet, but I am 5 foot 8 inches tall. No, I don't think they are equal. The distance from a person's fingertips to their nose is usually around 3 feet.

Hello =)
Firstly, I think you mean vertical height. I think Horizontal height is an oxymoron, or possibly the height of a fat man, lying on his back...
It is an approximation, and not an exact figure..... at 18, you may grow um...2-6 more centimetres, but I wouldn't bank on it.
I only grew an additional 4 centimetres after age 15.......for example...
My armspan is shorter than my vertical height.
Namaste, and Happy Holidays......

It is roughly equivalent but there are no set rules and many players in the NBA are there because the span of their arms exceeds their height. Growth is different for everyone and comes in spurts. Personally I grew an additional inch after your age. But again it is different for everyone. Be well.

I've heard it said that people whose armspan is longer than their height are typically good swimmers, but I don't know if that is true.

In most normal cases, it is true, but don't be disappointed if it doesn't happen for you, it's not true for every case.
