It bothers me i can't stand it when forigners speak perfect english but insist on useing there lanuage in America just because they want to. I think if you want to live in America you should have to give all your rights up to your lanuage.I don't think Americans should be forced to learn a different lanuage because you want to live here it should be our choice but slowly but surely it is happing we are forced to learn more lanuages That would also cut all the terrisiom crap out to can't exactly plot on the U.S in english inside the U.S and get away with it if you only speak english . I also believe there are to many forigners here already and if you want to be in our country with the rest of us english speakers and diplimatic immunity leads to being deported forever. I think in order for you to live here you have to speak english as a 1st lanuage and whatever other lanuage you think you should speak before english you can speak it in your own country not this one i like A lot of

See you just keep going back to it
However in normal conversation it's often eaisier to use whatever native language a person knows. if you don't know english and aren't willing to learn how to speak in order to communicate go home we would not be at war at this moment in time if all they were allowed to speak is english because they would not have been here in the first place

actually your right your lauange was one of the first then we killed you off but later on were nice enough to give you a small piece of land and of course give you goverment money just for being you every month and if your not getting it your getting screwed because i know a lot of indians that are but what do they do with it gamble it spend it on drugs at least from what i have seen thats why i don't hang with them any more but i guess thats just the young ones

How sad that there are people like you! Good thing is that you're all the way away in America. Luckely, people in the UK are much more understanding about foreigners and languages, and finally they're starting to realise that their lack of language skills is putting them at disadvantage against the rest of Europe, where people speak several languages. They've decided to catch up and start learning languages.
Maybe you should do the same, I am well aware there are millions of americans who speak foreign languages and who are very welcoming to foreigners there. At the end of the day, who in America isn't a foreigner? You don't even have your own language, you speak the language of England!
Get reading books and stop slagging people off for being much more multi-skilled and multi-cultured than you!
If you weren't an insecure-paranoid person you wouldn't even worry when they're talking in a different language around you, or do you think that just cos you talk about them the way you do, every time you hear foreign language around you they're talking about you? I'm sure they've got better things to spend their time in than talking about people with no talent or ambition.

Wow, you really have some issues don't you? I could care less what language people speak around me even if it's about me. If a foreign speaking person has something to say to you chances are they'll speak English. Are you mad because none of these people want to talk to you? I know enough Spanish and Japanese to hold a conversation and know simple things like numbers, yes, no, etc. in many others. It's called an education. Maybe you should concentrate on an education and learn more about other cultures so you aren't so intimidated. I do agree that if you are going to live in the U.S. you should learn to communicate in English, especially if driving. However in normal conversation it's often eaisier to use whatever native language a person knows. Some things also just don't translate well, like when I try to tell someone what my friend said in Spanish. But I gotta tell you sometimes it's just irresistable to speak in another language with friends just to piss off folks like you.

They tried to do that to me too because they knew that my parents spoke in another language to me which is unnecessary because I was academically (especially in English) 2 or 3 grades ahead of my peers. But my parents ended up lying and saying they didn't so I wouldn't be put into ESL (english second language). Yes, it most likely will go on your transcript. At least in Canada it does. Talk with your eld teacher and tell them how you were in honours english and if they won't help you get out of eld, then go to the principal. If the principal doesn't take you seriously, then bring your parents into it! They tried this sort of thing with my sister as well and it took my parents to have meetings with the administration. They can't make you take any classes that aren't a requirement for everyone else. Don't back down! Good luck.

My goodness! I think you're protesting a bit much for someone who's not mastered the language.

English isn't my first language. When I speak to another family member I don't use English unless I want everyone around to hear what I have to say. In other words, if you can't understand me, it's none of your business what I'm saying. If it bothers you so much to not be able to eavesdrop on me, learn Swedish.

To me, no, because there's a good chance I speak theirs. If you don't speak other languages, that's your problem. I made the effort, and it won't kill you, trust me!

That's as silly as me being bothered when nobody speaks Cherokee (which, by the way, is my language and one of the original ones in this country, unlike English.) And YOU believe there are too many "foreigners?" Good God.

I suppose that means you have never whispered to keep a conversation private, and you have never used slang that other people didn't know.

No? Then where do you get off telling people not to talk in private by using a language you can't understand?

Your inability to speak other languages is your failing, not other people's.

yes in america that would make me frustrated. i haven't had that people directly respond to me in another language unless they can't speak english but in france...some people can speak english and they choose to respond in french. i would understand because it is france but it still made me frustrated. but maybe some people want to make their own country and do whatever they please even being in america. nobody is forcing them to speak english. they have a right to speak however they want. its in the constitution. i'm not vouching for them, all i'm saying is, just brush it off and speak to people that want you to understand what they are saying. i've had foreigners talk in their language not to me, but i knew they were talking about me the way they pointed and trust me, that is way worse. why? i fell down some steps when i tripped over a crack in the ground. lol. like i said, it can be worse. i didn't even comment and walked away.

If somebody uses another language besides English in my presence it just means they're not talking to me.

It bothers me when people who speak English cant spell or properly punctuate their writing.

But who cares anyway, right?
