Well there actually are 2 Saint Valentines. St. Valentine of Rome and St.Valentine of Terni. The first was beheaded for marrying off young Romans against the wish of Emperor Claudius II. The second was imprisoned for his religious defiance where he fell in love with the prison guard's daughter. Its said that before his death he wrote a letter to his beloved signing off as "from your Valentine".

Whatever the debates, I guess the person who has epitomised love for ages can safely be called a saint irrespective of wat the religious tycoons may say.
