change your screen's resolution - there should be recommendations in the paperwork for the new monitor.
On a PC, right click on your desktop background, click Preferences, and go to the last tab, where you can set colors and resolution
On a Mac, go to System Preferences, and Displays to change those settings
Enjoy!

A "SQUARE" monitor has an ASpect Ratio of 4:3
Widescreens are 16:9 ot 16:10
The desktop resolution is set in Windows, 800x600, 1024x768 or 1280x1024 are all 4:3 ratios.
Im using a Widescreen LCD TV, it has a max ratio of 1360x768. I can display 1280x1024 on it, but get the black bars down each side.
Note there is also a refresh rate display hertz you can set -be carefull as, if you set it too high, you can damage your screen.
RTFM! :)

relies upon on the element ratio of the DVD. no longer all widescreen DVD's use a similar ratio, so some could have bars. The ratio for widescreen television's is sixteen:9 and maximum widescreen DVD's are sixteen:9 ensuing in no black bars.
