1. RAM (Random Access Memory) is main computer's memory which is made of "silicon chips". The computer uses these chips to run the progams and lets you use them. You may find that you need more RAM to make your computer work faster. It is volatile in nature means when you turn off your system all contents of RAM lost.

2. ROM (Read-Only Memory). A CD or DVD of course is the "Disk" on which there are programs, Movies, music, etc. A CD or DVD Player is where you put a CD or DVD to work.
A HARD DRIVE is NOT a ROM (the "hard disk drive" is where the programs are sitting, programs such as Windows and all other software such as games, music, etc). You install these software programs from CDs or DVDs into the hard-disk drive so that you won't need the CD or DVD every time you run or use these programs.

ram is random access memory
actually ram is responsible for storing those files and data that the computer is actually operating upon at a particular instance of time
hile rom is read only memory
its is a piece of code which is physically programmed on to a chip that is used to provide data to computer while there is no other source for it
think of the situation when computer is initially booted then rom is used to provide the cpu with the address where to look for the os and how to load it and then the control is transferred to os

rom is faster as it is read only while ram is slower than rom
ram is a volatile memory whose contents are erased when power is switched off from it while rom is not volatile and its contents are preserved

RAM exactly means Random Access Memory , name itself says that its a storage devise used to access memory randomly. whenever we access any data from the Hard Disk , it comes to the RAM and from there its display in the monitor. RAM temporarily stores the data.and we can access data very quickly by the use of RAM.

ROM : Read Only Memory
Its a storage devise you can store files depending up on the capacity. In this you can access the things which you have already stored in.
Example : CD , Floppy etc

RAM is random access.. like the RAM in your computer that continuously exchanged data with what you are doing and which programs you are using... ROM is Read ONLY memory.. to change data in it, you have to 'flash' it with new data or instructions like the computer's BIOS
