the best thing to do, is under the ipod options, click on the check box that says "only sync checked items" Then go through your music library and selct any songs you don not want on the ipod. If you right click the selected songs you get the option to "uncheck". Then when the ipod is connected it will automatically update only the songs with a check (have the small blue box on the left). Any songs which have been "unchecked" since the lasat connection will automatically be removed from the ipod.

Alternatively you can chose to manually manage your ipod. If you select this option in the ipod settings you then have the freedom to add and remove songs from the ipod. It does not automatically sync but instead you have to drag songs from your library to your ipod. If you want to delect songs click on the ipod, select the music folder on the ipod. Select the song or songs you want to remove, right click and select clear. This will delete the song from your ipod.

You can delete songs from your library on iTunes (by hi-lighting the song you don't want & hitting the delete button), then re download to your iPod....Be careful you can delete completely from your pc watch the prompt from iTunes!!
You might want to change your download setting from automatic to manual so you can pick & choose what songs you want on your iPod.
