Usually, the best idea is to write about something you know a lot about and are interested in. I don't know what interests you, but I can think of a few general topics: Mystery story (something is stolen or someone is killed) Adventure: friends go on a trip and something goes wrong... Everyday life: just tell a story about things that happen or might happen to you. They don't have to be incredible, sometimes the everyday can be every bit as interesting as the extraordinary.

Find something you care about. It can be in your life or something you read about in the news or see on tv.
Topics I have thought to write about just this month.
Take a peice of paper and write down a list of ideas. Good ideas, bad ideas, crazy ideas.
Then go back and cross out the bad ones.
Then select 3 of the best.
Then about them and choose 1.
Choose anything, that you care about.
Some ideas from me. Write about coming home to find your home is no longer there. Or you leave you home to find the world has changed.
Vampires are good. I want to write a story about corporate executives who are really vampires. As people make their way up the corporate chain they are slowly turned into vampires, while the rejects become zombies (maybe werewolves run the unions...hey go crazy)
Or take this type from comedy writing workshops. Go and do something you have never done before. Steal something, have crazy casual sex, go skydiving, see an opera.
Or, maybe find one little thing. Why find something like a pen or a can beans, and write it's story.
I would go crazy and write story about fluffy bunnies that take over the world. That is why I am not a successful writer....yet

There are hundreds of story writing topics you can pick, and I don't think it's possible for someone else to pick them for you. Which one of the hundreds of possible topics do you enjoy writing about? Once you figure that out, it'll be easy to start writing a story on it.
Good luck!

You want a simple one? This is one I've considered working on myself for quite some time now: Write a story from the first-person narrative (I was doing this or that, I am the main character, etc.) in which a burglar/robber/thief/criminal is about to commit a crime and he details the person he is stalking. As the first scene opens, the 'victim' surprises the 'attacker/narrator' by saying something like, "It's you... I've been waiting for you. I wondered when you were coming to kill me" Now the story builds from the narrator trying to discover how his victim knew him/her and how the victim knew the attack was coming...
