Push to talk is a walkie-talkie/ 2- way radio type of communication. It allows you to contact someone else with the service with a click of a button.I do not recommend push to talk unless you have Nextel. Most other carriers do not have many users with the features. Nextel has the most advanced, clearest and most instant push to talk network. On Nextel they call it "chirp".

it allows you to immediately get in touch with someone who has the same service. (it is actually quite obnoxious) you can start talking immediately as soon as the connection is established without the other person pushing the talk button - and totally interrupt whatever the other person is doing.

(it's like yet another answer to a question nobody asked)
