To import songs from a cd to an ipod, you need to make sure your computer has i-tunes, which if it doesn't, should come with the ipod. Then you insert the CD into the CD-rom drive and make sure it opens in itunes. Then select all songs on the Audio-CD, right click and click on "Convert Selection to AAC." After loading all the songs you want from as many CDs as you want, then connect the ipod to the computer and it should automatically update, including adding any new songs you have on itunes. If you download music, you can either buy it from the itunes music store or import it to itunes from your computer. Hope this helps.

Make sure you use the cd rom to download the required programs, once you do this iTunes will automatically look for music on your pc & ask you if you want to copy it into the iTunes library.
If you have no music on your pc you can copy any cd that you have (some do have copyright protection & won't copy no matter how many times you try) onto your hard drive via iTunes.
Once you get going or are ready to download to your iPod, simply hook it up to your pc using the supplied cables & iTunes will automatically start downloading (this is the default set up, as you become more familiar you can change this to manually update). Just remember do not disconnect your iPod until download is complete (you'll know when your pc shows the apple symbol where the "updating iPod" phrase is during downloads).
