Most of the festivals are reduced to merriment after a formal prayer.... The significance of the great tradition of living in the Lord in such occassions with recollection of His abundant grace on the family, society and all... trying to show our gratitude by special service to the poor and the forlorn for whom He condescended to come and say His messages, show His love ...That is waning fast in the materialistic age that all the more wants His protection in the face of the great risks to nature, social terror and so forth ... The hold of illusion - call it Devil or what not - is strong... There are few truly pious people who could inspire the society to get rid of the intoxication of merriment with sensory pleasures all the time .... including the holy days set for prayers...
