Thank you. I am alone but through choice. I'm fed up with the whole charade now that my children have grown up. I have family down south in England but I wouldn't like to be with them really as they are awful 'stick-in-the-muds' so it's just me and my dog and cat, a fillet steak and a bottle of wine. I only bought small presents this year for most people but did buy my granddaughter some lovely things.
Having said all that, I did SO enjoy the carols on TV yesterday and that wonderful film "The Calendar Girls".
A wonderful and happy Christmas wish to all of you out there whichever part of the world you are from. X X X X X

Hello,
Why? do other people see being alone as such a dreadful thing? as some sort of tradgedy? Being alone can be a very enjoyable experience, it can be a relief to have some personal time by yourself.
**Its only that we live a strange culture where if your alone or single at Xmas its seen as sad!! Frankly, I think there are thousands of people who feel very alone despite being invited to play happy families for a day . Many many families are NOT happy, Xmas isnt always a lovely time for everyone. Its only that we as a culture dont want to talk about the negative or dark side of Xmas.
*Nobody talks about the difference of feeling alone and of being or feeling lonely, thats a different issue althogther. Being alone can be a positive choice for many people but being alone & lonely can feel like torture and its often not a choice, its often a feta complie.

Thank you Jamjan! I am going to be with family and mates soon, very soon. I appreciate your thoughts for others. They reflect mine. If it were not for the hard work and love of my brother and his wife, I would undoubtedly have much less joy today... It is they who have kept the family and Christmas spirit together since my mother died. A great sis in law who held us together in her own moments of hurt...I am very appreciative, I wish all could be so blest.
Thanks for letting me share!
I am also posting this little wish at the end of several responses today:
And as on other post, for everyone...
May every moment today be wickedly merry, joyful, happy and bright.
Charles ""That Cheeky Lad"
--Even alone, there is room for joy, being thankful for all the good there is, and above all...looking beyond the moment toward a better new year.
Follow the light!

Absolutely. I'm quite happy to be alone. I normally visit relatives but, after last year, decided this time I would spend Christmas by myself. My first Christmas ever in London despite having lived here for much of my life.
