Passion is a sought of strong feelings of love and affection. It need not be materialistic or towards any other person, it is the force and tune of the mind.
Materialistic dimension and sensuous pleasures are being wrongly and unnecessarily added to the definition of 'real passion'

Passion is desire when it reaches a peak, so that it has the power to evoke uncontrollable emotions and generate spontaneous actions which have not had the benefit of screening with a cool head. Passion is to emotion what obsession is to intent.

I don't quite agree with jack jack. Passion is not necessary from one person to another... I work passionately, for instance.
