Open source in concept would create perfect code. If everyone wrote the best possible code, and everyone debugged it and shared. But that has yet to happen due to the distribution of developers, low or no budgets and lack of interest in some projects. If people where willing to pay a "computer tax" that would pay for open source the way I believe European TV taxes support BBC and other broadcast stations it might have a chance.

Eventually open source will surpass (or arguably has surpassed) privately developed code.

This is simply because there will be more minds working on the problems than a private concern can muster to a particular problem.

they are better in their own..

it depends on what you want to do with the OS. If you just want to hang out watching videos, listening music surfing internet and seriously you want to spend huge amount of money; well windows is better. but if you want to explore what is inside the computer; be some professional programmers and you don't have enough money then Linux might be the better idea..

Now it depends upon you which you choose..
