Well I think you are asking what a "Fuzzy system" is.

Fuzzy math is also called fuzzy logic. Basically it is a system of assigning numbers to things based on their not always clean and cut valuses. Here is a quick example.

Consider looking at a color. (let's choose somthing in like a reddish area)
Now what a fuzzy system does is it assigns values for this color
let's let 1=red and 2= yellow

Well looking at this wierd color we use our senses and realize that we can neither call it red or yellow... it's somthing orangish or some off color. So in a fuzzy system we would label it 1.4 or some value between 1 or 2 depending on what we think it could be.

You can use fuzzy systems for pretty much any thing you want. But that in a very simplistic case is what a fuzzy system/ fuzzy logic is all about.

Fuzzy is charaterized by having a soft layed of fluffy fur or down surrounding an area. Kittens are fuzzy.
