This is tricky. Do you think you've been gullible and taken in or are you more disappointed that somebody has managed to trick you?

Lots of people use the Internet to role play who they'd like to be rather than who they are so it's unsurprising that some people are roleplaying multiple people. It's a bit strange though that they would want all their roles to be your friend.

I would remove all their identities and then move on. Next time take things slower and perhaps chat in other environments - for example, with a webcam or using voice (skype etc), rather than relying on text only. Here's a novel thought - why not send each other actual letters in the post!

Build up trust slowly and be honest and open. I'm married to somebody I met 13 years ago through a personals ad!

I can see not wanting to reveal everything on the Internet. But I think to pretend you are different people with different addresses adds to the stalker quality of an individual. Very uncool and undesirable. Over possessive and jealous to the extreme

I absolutely agree. It is far too easy to pretend to be someone else on the internet.

Be careful. "how can you trust someone you've never met"...? You can't.
