Because, despite ourselves, there is no better news presentation than giving the nation the cause for a sharp intake of breath and for us to all turn round collectively and say how disgusting it is. Its the same mentality that causes us to rubber neck when looking at an horrific accident on the other side of the motorway, to see how much blood and guts we can see.
Then spend the rest of the day using more energy than normal cooking the Christmas dinner and burning all the lights in the house with Christmas decorations and lights in general as the kids all go off to play with all their new toys that they won't probably be playing with come the end of January. Ergo probably a waste of time and energy making them in the first place, let alone the energy used going out in your cars to all the shopping centres with all their lights on to buy them in the first place!
Global warming is a very real phenomonen? How serious it is, given that the same 'Prophets of Doom' predicted a disaster of cataclysmic proportions when the Y2C computer danger was threatening our very existance as we changed centurys 6 years ago is a matter for your own hearts and minds ?

Don't believe for a minute that global warming is caused by carbon emmisions or cfc's and the like , the government are just scare mongering us, and how is taxing us going to help the enviroment, if the planet is warming up, as they are always telling us, it is because the planet is going through a natural change, something that has been happening since the big bang, and long before the crusty lefty do-gooder science boffins (I hope you get a real job soon!) ever graced the earth, with there garbage statistics of which they have no evidence.Nature has it's own way of cleaning the planet , end- of!!

too right! i mean, this is supposed to be the day where for once we don't have to hear, read or watch bad news, and what happens? the bbc have dropped a bomb about global warming. for heaven's sake, we are all aware of this problem, but why does the bbc feel the need in mentioning it? we don't want miserable news- but for us to enjoy our xmas's in peace and with happiness. why can't the beeb understand that?!

It's apparently easier than working on NEW newsworthy stories. Global warming is a THEORY, not a news story. Besides, the earth is going to implode next year, so global warming will be a moot point.
