theyre usually wooden with metal flexable arms/legs/neck and used for sketching...i need to find pictures of sketches for a tattoo design.

It's called a mannequin, manikin, or lay figure.

You may also be able to find one if you search for "wooden art model."

those wooden gizmos are great decore for a studio, though not very practical to actually use. My wife and i have a couple and one or two of the hands and maybe some of the other critters as well, they are never used as reference tho...an actual model or photograph is much better. she is the more gifted as an artist and she is forever sending me to take pictures of people and children for one of her projects...or she poses me, or she calls in a neighborhood child with the mom and dad to have milk and cookies and pose for her. And the grandchildren...now they can really ham it up when grammy and pawpaw come for a visit.

They're called art manikins and can be found in art supply stores, or art catalogs.
