There are many occupations in the Social Services.
I know of a lot of people who have careers in a field unrelated to their college degree major.
A degree basically tells an employer that you had committed yourself to doing something and you stuck with it and completed it.
Going for a career in the field you have the degree in is a bonus.
Good luck and God Bless!

To be perfectly honest, you should have thought of your career path BEFORE jumping into a Master's program with any degree. This is the biggest downfall of people who chase graduate degrees: no forethought as to WHY or WHERE they will land afterwards. Example: tons of people attend business school to pursue their coveted MBAs and a huge percentage of them just HOPE to land high paying jobs after graduating. This is a long road to an unhappy ending. I would suggest that you do a lot more research in your field over the next several months. Additionally, you will be adding more school loans into your personal debt so in the future you may find yourself wondering why you chased the degree in the first place.

Now that I'm off my soapbox, you shouldn't expect a high-paying job with a Sociology degree IF you are planning to pursue a career that is specific to your course of study. Sociology degrees TYPICALLY end up in non-profit or educational fields and neither of those will land you in a Forbes 500 company. Having said that, your studies will propel you into a world of examining social interactions and how this affects the way people think and act...that becomes a huge, intangible asset into managing or directing a company.

Learn for the love of learning. If you are trying to make more money, you are pursuing the wrong degree (statistically speaking).

To teach in a public school system, you will need a teaching certificate (from the state) and most of them require you to have a teaching degree. A few states have a "professional entry" path where is someone agrees to supervise you, you can work as a teacher and after a while get your certificate without a formal education degree. Worth asking. Other options: try private schools, which often don't require teaching certificates. Or if you want to teach social work, a community college might hire you with only your masters degree (paticularly if you have an MSW and work or have worked as a professional social worker)
