We are not more rare than anything else with mass that surrounds us.

Simple. We bipedals who can conceive of the stars and a God come with an extremely high overhead. Existence has it's price of high taxes, too. Keeps away the competition.

Gee, it's lonely at the top. But it's better than being at the bottom of the food chain.

Probably coz its easy to create the dead mass, but a lot is involved in creating a new life form...all the right conditions, protection etc.
