Keep it as a keepsake. It's of no value. We've been using the new currency for like two years now, and it's hard to find old money. Even if we used the old currency, 5000 TL wouldn't even buy a chewing gum.

Not very much at all.
You have an "old" Turkish Lira (the "new" Turkish Lira became effective on Jan 1, 2005, and the country revalued it's currency at that time. The revaluation was 1,000,000 Turkish old lira to 1 Turkish new lira.
Your 5000 lira bank note is worth .005 YTL (Turkish new lira), and 1 YTL is about 70 cents USD -- so the conversion to USD makes it worth about three-tenths of a cent.
Don't spend it all in one place. :-)
