I have wanted to be a trucker since 1999. I just never had a chance to do it.
Im 26 now, near six feet tall, and I feel like a loser as I am a stay home mom right now who depends on a man for total income.
He is not supportive of this, but I want to do it.
the course is 5000, and I could get the money from my dad, I dont know what to do.
My bf makes over 100,000 a year, I would like to make my own money too doing something I like and not working at a **** job.
What should I say to him, he really hates this idea.

Explain to him why you want to be a truck driver. And if you absolutely feel you must, then tell him you are going to.

Do you dictate to him how he should plan his life? No? Then he has no right to do this to you.

But, as a stay at home Mom for many years, I would have to add don't leave them until they are Mid 20's. And stop feeling like a looser, if your kids are healthy and happy you are a winner.

Im not saying you can't still have a career, but I will say that when I look back, I see the critical Mothering years were between 15 and 22. After that I could have gone back to work. But not before.

When a woman gives birth she makes a commitment, if life and circumstance do not force her to leave her kids, she should not. Kids turn out way better with an "At Home" Mom.

I would hate the idea too if I was him. I didn't marry a man who would leave for long periods of time, I would resent this being thrust on me.

I still think that whatever you choose, you consider the needs, wishes and fears everyone in your family feels.

He most likely fears for your safety, and probably has some insecurities about your need "suddenly" for independance. It is likely to make him feel less the "bread winnner".

Ego's are such fragile thing, one needs to walk on eggshells, but one can still get what one want's. Just takes skill.........and patience.

You'll have to decide what's more important...your bf or your career, since he seems to not like it. My suggestion would be to keep the $5,000 and apply directly to the trucking company of your choice. Most trucking companies have a trainee program, where they pay YOU during the training. It's usually not a lot, but they do train you on their equipment, and hire you when you've successfully completed the program. Don't make the same mistake we did, getting a student loan and going to a truck driving school. They don't give you enough training for the money you pay. If we had known about training programs at trucking companies, we'd have never did the truck driver school. I know that Schnieder, Roehl, and JB Hunt all have trainee programs. That's your best bet, if you're serious about trucking. As for your bf...if he's not supportive of you going on the road, find out why. Is he afraid you'll find someone else out there? Is he afraid of you getting hurt? Those are real fears to consider. Talk to him about it and find out why he doesn't like it. If it's all about keeping you barefoot and pg, it might be time for a new bf. Another thing I would highly suggest is talking to other lady truckers and find out the pro's and con's of being a lady trucker. <*)))><

It's your life, not his.

My Dad's girlfriend drove trucks across the country for many years. She's a small lady, only about 120lbs and 5'4". If she can do, you can too.

I'd say it's not the best idea either since you have a child or children. Truck driving will keep you away from home for a long time.

it particularly is because of the actuality that standard 18-wheeler vans are generally seen through folk to be a great burden on the line, and because they are so colossal, on each occasion one even is going through it makes some human beings frightened/traumatic. so, even till now a truck driving force does something incorrect on the line, human beings already type of have a vendetta against them - then whilst a they actually DO something rude, like decrease somebody off or if 2 vans take in the two lanes of a 2-lane highway, it pisses human beings off 10x extra beneficial than if it replaced into accomplished through in basic terms some different random automobile. then whilst it particularly is raining out and enormous vans splash water throughout you?? it is the worst. yet truck drivers generally do no longer particularly even do something incorrect, it particularly is in basic terms their presence on the line that agitates specific human beings.

why would you feel like a loser? A mom is an important job. You also realize as an over the road truck driver you will miss alot of your kids childhood.

If you become a truck driver, you will not be with your children.
Find a part time job locally.
Start small.

More importantly before having another child, make sure you are married.

Ya it is nice to do what you want...But if for whatever reason you don't get to do it..You are not missing out on much. It is not very glamourous work. Wether you do the longhaul or are peddling freight. I would lean more towards the peddlling freight due to the fact that you can be home every night and still make more money than most of them dumbass longhaulers that can't drive worth of crap.

Every time a see a werner truck in the city I try to avoid it all costs. Cause you know if he/she is trying to back into a tight spot you are going to be waiting for a while. But at least you will be getting paid...unlike the dummy in ther werner truck...LOL.

It is not just the driving you have to contend with it is the damaged freight, pissed off customers, misloads, reworking the loads, spills, pallets tipping over, dummies stacking a 900lb pallet on a 150lb pallet, more pissed off customers, miserable receivers that are pissed off becuase of their career choice of $8 an hour, you know, just stopping for a pack of smokes can turn into a real night mare, forced dispatch, 10am appointment...you don't dispatch till 11am. That 10am appointment that just got refused is now blocking the rest of the freight in the truck. Now you get to move it around all day. No Dock..No problem.....No forklift...No Problem....No dock or no forklift...I guess you will be working around that one as well. How nice of the guy that loaded your trailer to forget to sweep it. A toothpick will stop a 6-700 lb skid on a pallet jack dead in it's tracks. Did you hear that? Was that a piece of steel that someone didn't secure rolling around like a wrecking ball. Or could it have been a 700lb drum of some surely cancer causing chemical that just nearly went right through the back door. Boy I wish that thing did go out the back door cause now it is leaking all over the place. Sure you can fit..I have trucks come down here all the time...you only have to back out 2 miles onto a nice busy city street. Some dummy just rear ended you now you will be tied up for a good hour while they try to blame you for backing up in the street. It is now 12pm and you only have 6 or 7 deliveries left. Oh what is this we have..great.. my lovely dispatcher just sent you 5 pickups that close by 2 or 3 and just for extra fun you have already delivered to 3 of them. Boy that sure is a lot of rushing around. Getting hungry yet? No problem just reach in to the old lunch can and yank out a PB&J that black stuff all over hands is all over the inside of your lungs so you may as well add some to the inside of your stomach as well. Private way=No way, 2 pallets of paper to the 7th floor uhhh thats only about 6800 lbs, then you get the secretary thats only making $12 and hour (and she only got that from hanging out under the desk) talk to you like you are some kind of a scum bag and say oh just put it in that back closet. We stop receiving at 11am, we are at lunch, closed for inventory, we didn't order that, dammit they sent us the wrong thing, How we doing mike? Was that a power line you just ripped down? That might explain the pecker head in the lexus blinking his high beams at me. Guess I won't be able to make that pickup. Ohhh...Plenty of room to turn around down there. No Trucks...No Problem...One more you can work around for the day..Don't worry thought they will send you there tomorrow. Then when you are finally done and you hear the words "Bring it home". Still haven't eaten your lunch mind you. You get back to the terminal and the Freight Operations stupidvisor says "Where you Been?". What took so long? Don't worry though you can get hime back with Do you want me to take my lunch now? That will get him going pretty good. May as well go through some warm clothes on becuase he needs help on the dock and it's only 14 degrees out there. minus another 10 or so for the wintunnel effect coming through the dock doors. Hope this helps.

They both suck....I would rather do that than have to be a stay at home mom though....I don't know how my wife does that. Good on her and you as well. There a few local female drivers I run into once in a while. One of them is smokin hot to. She can't be a day over 23 or 24. I have a lot of respect for her for doing this shitty work and still maintaining her beauty.
