I am a newly independent hairdresser in Austin and am finding it difficult to build my clients fast enough. I've done all the free advertising I can think of just looking for some fresh ideas I may not have thought of yet. I love what I do, but need it to pay the bills too.

Have you tried Myspace? I was once messaged by a hairdresser in San Antonio getting the word out. Its free all you have to do is set up an account and search for people in Austin and message them. =) Good Luck!

Hi! My sister is a professional stylist...

Business cards, an add in the local paper, make up a professional looking flier and distribute it in your neighborhood.

Ask friends to pass along the word. Have a Bring A Friend For Free day. Pay for 1 cut, the friend gets it free for 1 day only.

Call nursing homes and see if they require a stylist. Some nursing homes have an on site stylist. Seniors love their hair done. If you do visits to the homes once every 2 weeks or something. Call and ask to speak with the administrator.

I hope some of these help you !
:o)
