Don't just recite the words, have a deep, imaginary, understanding of the character.
All that is known about Romeo consists of what can be read in the stageplay, but what makes Romeo tick is largely up to you.
Whenever I portray a character, I give the character depth by building the character's personal history and world outlook based upon the little pieces of information the writer gives.
Romeo was obviously young, and is said to have been in love with Juliet, but when most men get older they realize that they fall "in love" about every 10 feet or so while walking down a crowded city street. In short, it's likely that Romeo was in the infatuation stage of his relationship with Juliet when the stageplay ended. Had they decided to live, their relationship would have progressed through many other phases.
Another aspect of Romeo that could be developed is that he and Juliet were members of two feuding families. Had Romeo been older, once he realized Juliet was a member of the "wrong family" the relationship would probaby have cooled. However, Romeo's reaction to Juliet could easily be viewed as youthful optimism, and its possible he could have viewed his relationship with Juliet as a means of starting to end the feud. This last idea isn't stated in the stageplay, but it is a possible interpretation of Romeo.
We also have no idea how much the feud has personally impacted Romeo, but it's believeable that it would have been significant. In this light, Romeo could have decided to go ahead with Juliet with deep-seated hopes of personal healing as well as with hope of ending the feud.
You don't need to tell anyone you have this view of Romeo, or some other viewpoint that you have developed, but If you keep it in mind when you audition then you are likely to come with a vastly different portrayal of Romeo that will be bolstered by your body language and line delivery.

This question lacks context.
You'll get the role if the director deems you to be the strongest available actor. Sorry if that sounds simplistic, but there it is.
What kind of an audition is it? Are you being asked to bring in prepared material (i.e., a monologue)? Are you going to read from the script?
The other answers to this question really aren't responsive. The question wasn't: "How can I give a strong performance as Romeo?" but rather: "How can I get the role?" Auditioning doesn't have to do with playing the part; it has to do with persuading a director that, given the length of time devoted to rehearsals, you will EVENTUALLY give a strong performance in the role. It's about CONNECTING with a director, and persuading them that YOU'RE the person that they'll most want to work with.
My advice? Read the play thoroughly. Give it some thought. But, when you enter the audition room, you're not there to "play" Romeo...you're there to let the director know: "I'm the best actor you're likely to see today, and, if you cast me in this role, you and I will put together a performance that we'll both be proud of."

If you are auditioning with a monologue, chose a classical monologue (such as shakepeare) with a young character . Don't ever audition with a piece from the same play. Think about where Romeo's head was at. He was a rich kid, a little bit spoiled and used to getting what he wanted. Think about the relationship between the two familys. That provides the conflict in the play. People married very young then. I believe that he was sincerly in love with Juliet.
When you do the audition, do vocal and physical warm ups so that you are relaxed.
