you might want to see your doctor cause i had a fever, hard contractions and a lot of back pain. it was a kidney infection and that hurt worse than the actual labor 2 weeks later. if your sides are cramping you could have an infection in that kidney. i had the chills with my fever. get checked out cause they sent me home without checking for that and my baby was in distress and i could have lost her

First of all, you need to say how pregnant you are. Chills are not a normal symptom in pregnancy.

Are you nauseous? Have a temp?

Have you timed the "cramps" "contractions"? are they regular?

In later stages of pregnancy, the last trimester, many women experience Braxton Hicks contractions. It is seen as sort of a warm up for actual labor. But Braxton Hicks contractions are not as evenly spaced as real contractions.

If you are feeling pain in your lower left abdomen consider calling your OB and telling him. Particulary if you still have your appendix.

Also relate your temperature, the chills and any other unsusal physical observations.

Don't worry, most pregnancies are easy as pie.

Just always keep your Doc informed of any changes. He/she will not be annoyed.

I'm quite sure these are all normal...however, if you're not comfortable...or you think something may be wrong...please do not hesitate to go to the doctor right away. Your body and mind is pretty good at telling you what is normal and what is not...and well, especially in this case...it's better to be safe than sorry!
