If same sex couples get married or have a civil union, do they typically change their last names? If they do, how do they decide which last name to use or what? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

Yes, sometimes we do change them sometimes, it depends on the couple. Other times we hypenate our names, adding our names together. Most of the times we just leave them as they are.

I think this is a great question and worth some thought.

If I could get married I mean really married like the given right the straights have and be as widely accepted and validated as they are too............it would be awesome and yes I would love to take my husbands name.

Since no where can we legally marry or have the right to think or act legally married... no I would not take my husbands name.

It is a shame that we have this ridiculous token civil union crap and we settle for it too! That is just validating to the powers that be that we are not worthy of being recognized because we settle for the bone they throw us.

We need a Rosa Parks in the gay world to lead the way!

sure-- every person can replace his or her call to be however they'd like, with some exceptions on the topic of profanity or vulgar language. heavily, regardless of the indisputable fact that, you need to rename your self Santa Claus in case you needed, and a few human beings have. In states the place marriage is an option for comparable-intercourse couples, the approach is extra computerized, with call-changing being an option on marriage license place of work work. In different states, a separate call-replace application generally would desire to be filed.

When me and my husband get married, he is planning to take my last name as his. He doesn't get along well with his family, and mine have been very nice to him. To be honest, I'm not sure what we would do if that wasn't the case. I personnally think that some name change is warrented, but I'm not sure what we would decide.

Thanks for the very good question, as opposed to some of the idiotic things that are posted here.

Sometimes, it depends on the couple. My wife takes my last name because I'm the butch and therefore consider "the male" some do hypenate their names and some just keep their maiden, it's all a matter of preference.

Hmm, well, my girlfriend and I have considered taking each other's names, but we both like our own to some degree. We ended up deciding that when we get married, we'll most likely end up legally changing our last name to "Rorey", which is a mixture of both our last names. :)

My husband and I didn't chang our names. We're both very close to our families and it would hurt them too bad if one of us changed our name.

Here it is custom to either choose one last one or keep your own last name.
And that applies to married people as well.
Quit a no of straight people I know just kept their own last names.
So.the decision of what to do is totally up to themselves.
Merry Christmas:greetings:Rob.

it depends on the couple.. some wants their name to join together.. some remains the same.. if I'm going to choose, i think joined names will be better

In a gay marriage couples decide what they want to do..I've only seen people keep their original names.
