Yes and no. If you can make it through a year of regular college, you can probably become a doctor. You need the discipline of carrying a full load, balancing your family life, and staying afloat economically. There are different types of doctors, and the requirements are different for each program. When you start college find out what the requirements are for the specific program you want to do.
All health professions require the same basic coursework. Generally at least one year of the following; anatomy, chemistry, physics, english, math, etc. The top medical schools will require that you keep a near 4.0 grade average, so don't be afraid to drop a course mid-term. NO, you do not have to be a "genius"; then again you do. Once you learn what a genius actually is, you won't be so intimidated. My favorite definition of genius is anyone who makes it into college.
I know you can do the coursework, so the only other thing that might stop you is the ickiness. Live animal experiments, touching people in private areas, dissecting a human corpse, and then getting up in a room full of people and telling them all about different diseases.
It is not super hard, but it is a big commitment, and doing things that scare you will help you mature.

I don't think it's any harder than becoming a lawyer! I considered becoming a doctor but I
discovered while a nurses aid I couldn't stand the sight of blood! I came across some doctors that seem to be real dufuses.. One in Salmon Arm and One in Vernon! These dufuses probably cheated to become doctors.
They probably paid someone else to study for them! I don't see how else dufuses can get to be doctors. Can U? Well the world does need more Good Doctors.. not just lousy doctors that push pills. Well I became a Herbalist at least with that I don't have to see anything really bloody. A small scrape or tiny cut don't bother me. It's the those big bloody operations that bother me! On colour tv when there's a doctor program and they are supposedly cutting someone open.. I turn my head cause it looks too real. I know its not real on those t.v. doctor shows.. I know they use ketchup or beet juice to imitate blood! But it's still gross to me!

No, you neednt be a genius to become a doctor. What is required is a basic interest in medicine, will to work hard for at least 10 more years before you can start earning from your profession, and determination to reach there.
If all doctors were geniuses in the first place, then you wont find today doctors who are just mediocre. I am sure you have come across such doctors!

You don't have to be a genius, or even really really smart to be a doctor! Having intelligence helps, don't get me wrong, but you just need to be dedicated and hard-working! In medical school and college you will need to memorize pages and pages of information and if you're like me you have to sit down and spend a lot of time to do it! It is difficult to do, especially if all of your friends are going out to a party and you really want to go but you just have to remember it isn't forever! I'm not a genius but I'm in the exact same place as the so-called-geniuses because I worked hard. Good luck!

I am currently approaching my third year of medical school and I've interviewed applicants, and I can say for sure you do not need to be a genius. Medical school is difficult and being a genius can only help, but whatever a person lacks in intelligence can be made up with determination. They say, and I believe, that the hardest part about medical school is getting in. It takes a lot of effort, determination, and devotion to the career. You have to be committed to doing whatever it takes to make your application stand out among the thousands of other applications each medical school receives.
When you get into medical school the amount of material you have to know is substantial, but most people can learn it if they spend a lot of time reading, studying, and practicing their clinical encounters. My medical school is one hour away from the town I grew up in, and I can make it home about once a month.
I won't lie, most medical students feel as though medical school is extremely hard, but if you're dedicated to being a physician and you know the career is for you, do it. It is simultaneously the most difficult and rewarding thing I have ever done. When I was little I knew I was destined to be a doctor and as I grew older I would have done virtually anything to reach that end. And, I believe, more than anything, determination and committment are what gets medical students through it.
The way I saw it, it was like C.S. Lewis' said, "There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, Thy will be done, and those to whom God says, All right, then, have it your way." For me, medicine was going to happen one way or the other. If you have that kind of dedication you don't have to worry about how difficult medical school is, you'll get it done.
Good luck! I have to get back to studying.

You don't have to be a doctor, but you do have to be dedicated to it. If you're in Canada, check out www.binm.org. It's the website for the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. After four years there you can have a diploma that makes you a doctor of naturopathic medicine.

Yes it's very VERY difficult.. my brother is currently in med school and no one in my family speaks to him for weeks at a time because he is studying so much... he had an entire anatomy class over a 9 week period and had to know EVERYTHING by the end.. just an example. Don't want to discourage you but just so you know what you're in for.

It is hard, but definitley not impossible. You just got to be determined enough to get there by working hard and being patient Since you have to go through lots of education and training and etc. But first, try believing in yourself and that you can do it, if you try your best. Hope this somewhat helps...xD
