It really depends on personal preference, how much ice time your get, and the temp in your rink. If you are "hot blooded" and play a lot of shifts then you may prefer as little as possible to come between you and your hockey gear. If you are riding the pine in a really cold rink then you want long-johns and long sleeves. There's no hard and fast rule.

The only thing undergarments do is increase the amount of stink in your bag. I wore them a couple times since I had them for being an official (great for that by the way) but they just got itchy and the you just feel moist all over, then when you sit, you get cold from the moisture. If the pads are too ruff on your skin from the velcro or stitching, wear a plain white shirt that is thin and cheap, you won't want to wear it more than a few times.

If you play indoors, I can't imagine you'd ever get cold. I wear the shorts and sleeveless. With long pants and long sleeves, my shin guards and elbow pads slide down more and it's annoying.

I don't wear any undergarments , I like the sweat to evaporate instead of sticking to my body.

just wear boxers (or underwear) and underarmor for a shirt...less is best and if you get cold work harder...use a garder belt to keep socks up rather than comp. shorts
