I believe that abstinence should be taught as the only way to 100% guarantee that you can stay away from STD's and pregnancy. It is the only proven method that is 100% effective.

Contraception is NOT 100%. It's NOT safe. Anything can still happen.

Teaching about contraception will just make teens want to have sex even more. I mean, think about it. It'll make them curious and will make them want to use what they learned. They may want to experiment to see if contraception really does work.

I think it's ridiculous teaching about contraception when you can just simply tell them to not have sex. It's like smoking... why would you teach about "light" cigarettes when you can just tell them to not smoke?

I would like to hear from others who agree with me.

People tend to want reasons to teach abstinence for practical, safety purposes... not moral ones.

Morality is MY main reason in staying abstinent till marriage though. God wants the act of sex to be within the bonds of marriage.

Amen and amen and amen. There are many reasons why abstinence is a Biblical commandment. And it was not created to spoil our fun. Abstinence solves a lot of problems such as unplanned pregnancies, abortions, sexually transmitted diseases and the general cheapening of human worth.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but abstinence education is a tragic joke. Not too long ago they did an experiment: One group of kids got 100% real, honest, scientific sex education, complete with details about contraception and STDs; one group got faith-based abstinence education; and the control group got a routine health class (meaning: no real sex talk at all). The results were that the first group had fewer pregnancies, fewer STDs, and more kids deciding not to have sex; the abstinence group and the control group showed little change or increases in pregnancies. If you bornies are so concerned about abortion, you need to keep people from getting pregnant in the first place. You're not going to keep kids from having sex, because as someone else pointed out, all you have to do to guarantee a kid will do something is tell him you don't approve. At that age we all wanted it (and if you deny that I'll call you a liar), and trying to tell our kids it's wrong is hypocritical. Don't try to compensate for your own sexual guilt by encouraging ignorance.

If you tell them in school not to have sex, they are going to have it anyway. In fact out of a sense of rebellion, they are going to do the things that they are told by adults not to do. So why not teach both abstinence and contraception? That way everything is covered, and include a course on self-control, not only when it comes to sex but also alcohol, drugs, emotions, etc. You can not force these kids to be abstinent, they more or less do what they want to do. You do have some teens who do wait for marriage but in this day and age and especially here in this country (USA), teens are engaging in some form of sexual activity. It has become somewhat out of control.

Sorry, but I disagree.
Teaching absolute abstinence will get kids curious. Tell someone not to do something, and what's the first thing they do?? Especially rebellious teenagers. When they finally explore their curiosity, and most will, then what? They will know absolutely nothing about contraception; which is ofcourse not fool proof, but it's better than using nothing. Education is the key, not prohibition.
Let kids know that it's a choice they have to make. If they choose sexual activity, arm them with enough knowledge to protect themselves as best as they can.

Are you kidding? Do you really believe that teenagers are not going to experiment with sex? Get real! They must be taught about condoms starting in middle school.

Contraception prevents abortion. Abstinence is unrealistic. Use just a little common sense, if you have any. That is a giant IF!!!!!

Okay, you say stay away from sex to a species that craves sex and expect them to do it why? Because of STD's or pregnancy? The problem is, all STD's, except AIDS is curable and abortion is still legal. Not to mention, they know how to play the game right.

If you want to get their attention, give them the fantasy. Give them the most erotic truth that exists to man. The truth of love. True love is monogamous. True love is devoted to the one soul mate. True love is willing to live through discipline to be wholesome and pure for their soul mate.

Every time a person has sex with another person, they become one. The heart and soul are no longer unto themselves, but connected to another. When the sex is impure, so is the unison. It has also been determined to be the reason a person who has had sex prior to marriage never meets their soul mate. Their path is no longer on course to their destiny.

Studies have shown that people who have loved monogamously have the best orgasms. This is believed to be because the actual orgasm is a product of the soul being stimulated physically. When the body and soul are pure, the orgasm is at it's peak.

So, don't try to scare them from sex . . . . give them a reason to adhere to their soul purpose before their physical desire.

Abstinance education is a really stupid idea, thought up by religious fanatics who know nothing of adolescent psychology or education.

The reality is, most well adjusted adolescents will experiment sexually - the ones that don't usually abstain from sex due to some sort of physical or psychological disability which makes them unable to interact with their peers in a sexual way.

The Dutch have comprehensive sex education, and condom distribution, from middle school on. They have a far lower rate of teenage pregnancy or STI's than we do.

In America, the fundamentalist taliban keep sex ed and condoms out of our schools, so we have an epidemic of teenage STI's, teenage pregnancy and girls who engage in oral sex so they can claim that they are 'virgins'.

The fanatics should get out of our classrooms and let professional educators educate our students about their bodies!

You see, the reason to teach about protection is because lets be real yes abstinance is the only 100& way but it is unrealistic to expect todays teenagers not to engage in sexual activities, face it abstinance only sex education is irresposible, the responsible thing to do is to EDUCATE teens on having safer sex, and guess what i am a teenager and i have sex, i am happy to say i am std free because i use condoms, i have participated in unsafe sex because i was curios and thought condoms were just to keep from getting someone pregnant and i thought i wouldnt need them because i was gay, however if my health class had tought about protection instead of just dont do it then i would have known. i can thank the trojan commercials for informing me on safe sex since the school didnt... thanks trojan man

Actually I agree with you, but kids are curious, when you tell them not to do something, that is just when they will do it, so teach them also about contraceptives and the diseases that are associated with sex and teach them about child raising, so if they get pregnant, then they will know how to take care of a baby. They need to be taught all of these things.

um ok. just because you tell a five year old to put down the lolli pop dosen't mean they're gonna do it. teachers tell kids not to have sex all the time, but actually, it just makes them want to have sex MORE because they know its forbidin. same for smoking and drugs and ****. if the little f*ckers want to screw up their lives, be my freaking guests.
*its a thing called CHOICE. ever heard of it?
