You should rephrase the question as: "Seriously, why other asian-AMERICANS don't classify Filipinos as asian?"
One of my observations is that asian-AMERICANS are a strange lot. It's probably due to the unique psycho-social pressures of being a minority. It's only Americanized Filipinos who think themselves as Pacific Islanders. Ask a Filipino from the Philippines and he or she will say they're asian.
Ask a mainland Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Indonesian if a Filipino is Asian and they'll say yes, and also wonder why you'd ask such a ridiculus question. Asian-AMERICANS who seem to have big chip on their shoulder and also have a fixation for taxonomizing Asian races based on very limited knowledge and understanding. Demonstrated by someone who gave a crazy answer that Southeast Asians (Cambodians, Laoatioans, and Filipinos) are Hmongs.
I say ignore them. Those who say that you're not asian are uneducated because they don't know crap about geography, asian history, and sociology. They're only source of knoweldge is MTV and Playstation. I usually tell Filipinos who call themselves Pacific Islanders to go home to Palau.
I would also like to point out that there are brown skinned Japanese also. You'll see a lot of them in Okinawa. How about the Cantonese in Southern China who also have dark skin? Will an asian-AMERICAN call them Hmong too?

We had no decision. Spaniards REQUIRED all Filipinos or maybe migrant Filipino-chinese language to sign in in Spanish names. Jose Rizal had a chinese language ancestry yet they could no longer use their chinese language call. for the time of Spanish situations, chinese language have been discriminated. There are additionally Spaniards who migrated in the Philippines and off purpose they delivered their names with them. luckily some Filipinos have been able to preserve their unique names. for sure the kin call Pacquiao is very Filipino. everybody is conscious of what the word Pacquiao or Pakyaw means in the close by dialect. Macau was a Portuguese colony. some human beings there use Portuguese names. If Filipinos did use their call it could have been Muhammad and different midsection eastern sounding call it extremely is obviously no longer very Asian. bear in concepts whilst the Spaniards arrived in the Philippines, Islam had already gotten carry distinctive the Malay archipelago (Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines). a number of the the rest tribal minorities (non-Muslims) in Mindanao nonetheless use their tribal names (Bai Makatao, Datu Kalinao, etc..). If Filipinos are no longer extremely Asians, could it mean Malaysians and Indonesians are no longer additionally Asians? Filipinos got here from the Malay race. in certainty there's a sparkling anthropological learn which states that the 1st migrants of the Philippines got here from Taiwan. Indigenous tribes in Taiwan is comparable with the persons in Batanes and Ifugao. Then from the Philippines, they unfold to the Pacific Islands.

I am half Filipino (and half white) and my official race on every document is Asian (or Pacific Islander, which is even more specific). I find it offensive and ignorant to say they Filipinos are Hispanic. The Philippines are in Asia, so...Asian.

Well according to my 14 year old daughter, Filipino's are considered to be Pacific Islanders. She had to learn this because she goes to school with a high majority of Asians and Filipinos.

I don't know exactly. My grandmother from the Japanese side of my family (I'm only half-blooded, or whatever politically correct term is in fashion I suppose) seems pretty anti-any type of asian that isn't Japanese. I've always viewed Fillipinos as asians. The other asians I knew in highschool sometimes didn't, and sometimes did, but it seemed more that those that grew up around white influenced families did. I guess it might have to do with who they were raised around.

not sure about my lil theory though but I'm guessing Filipinos shouldn't be recognized as Asian...
if you'll start with its country's location you can see that Philippines is way off on the "Asian" map than any other Asian country... Mostly not all Filipinos are native Filipino there might some European bloods coming from them way way back and lastly if you just move a little east from Philippines you'll end up being in US...
ahahah how odd

everyone that is from the continent of Asia is asian. Like wise if you live in the US, you are an american. But if you are an American and you live in Texas, then you call yourself Texan. So if you want to be called Asian, just tell people that you are Asian from Asia.

I was told by a friend of mine who is Filipino that, because they are "Mixed" they are rejected as being asian. This is what she told me and I actually looked in up. This was in Jr. High. And it said pretty much the same things there. I'm in my 40's now.... I wish I could remember where else I got that info.

First four questions you asked are the most probable answers to your question. By the way, I am an Indian and I know Filipinos are as Asian as we are. Welcome aboard our ship!
