As planets transit through your houses (solar and ascendant) they activate characteristics of those houses singalling things you should expect (challenges or opportunities). As they cycle through your solar chart, that's how it mostly seems from your subjective perspective, while your ascendant's transits represent a view from an external vantage point.
In addition, the transits of the planets in relation to the planets in your natal chart, are another dimension (for some people these seem to be important, and for others not so important).
Each year, your solar return winds up in a different house, and such a solar return chart is sometimes useful for understanding how a particular year might diverge from your basic solar chart.
You can find astrology resources on the web. Keep in mind that this a tool for focusing your consciousness.

The way to find the most important planet in the horoscope is to just point to the empty space, that empty one third of the circle. Then, move your finger COUNTERCLOCKWISE until you reach a planet. That planet, known as the cutting planet, is the most important one in the horoscope. And just like the case of the funnel chart, if you look up the interpretation of that planet by house, sign, and aspect, you will have the essence of the horoscope and the person

Supposedly whatever planets are in the sky when you're born affect how your life will unfold.
But since horoscopes don't work anyway, don't worry about the planets. Astrology is based on star charts that are so old, the stars are no longer in the same places anymore. Therefore, astrology is based on misinformation.
It is also based on misdirection and generalities. Here's an interesting exercise. Look at yesterday's horoscope. I bet you can find a way to fit what happened to you into the "predictions" of almost every sign. Individual "personalized" horoscopes are very general as well.
Don't base your life on this stuff. Live your life by your own decisions.

Think of planets of different people each having their own personality. They spin forwards or backwards ( term: retrograde) and they transit and travel throughout outer space different types of the year. Please keep in mind we also live on a plant , earth.
Most people forget that we also live on a planet hurling through space as well. Planets when they travel they affect certain signs. Think of signs as other people that they can either get along with or argue with. For example imagine being Gemini ( the twins) and meeting up with Jupiter , Gemini and Jupiter are friends, they meet up once to twice a year anfd when they do they make alot of money together. Gemini ans Jupiter share a Money relationship. When Jupiter leaves Gemini, the money kind of dwindles down. Now when Venus visits Gemini, there is an existing love relationship that is strengthened or if Venus is in retrograde ( meaning moving backwards) that means Venus is working against Gemini, almost as if the planet and sign are fighting with each other. This can signify a relationship break up when this happens. These are just basic examples, I hope you understand that each planet has an influence of a relationship with each sign and when they get together either positive or negative things can occur.

Several responses. The astrological birth chart is a map of the sky. It represents the "energies" of a particular moment in time. Theory is that a newborn is "imprinted" with the qualities of the energies of the time of birth. A common theory is that the infant picks their time of birth, the time (and qualities of that time) being conducive to working on whatever lessons have been selected for that life. So a premature infant would, under this theory, have chosen that time, to be a Sun-in-Cancer. The astrological chart is not supposed to define you. It is supposed to give you a model, which you use to question and look at yourself with, asking, "Am I really this way, or am I some other way?" When you say you do not feel like a Cancer sign, you are saying that you are not self-protective or easily hurt. That you do not have a priority for feeling like you belong to a group of people (this can be family, or a group of friends), like your "people" "belong" to you. And when you say you feel more like a Virgo, you are saying that you have very set and well-defined standards about what makes sense and what doesn't, and you live your life by those standards. You put yourself down if you fail to meet them, but you also judge others. Both signs will help others, but Cancer does it from a "mothering" feeling, while Virgo just wants to help someone get back on their feet and do it for themselves ... and if the person won't do it for themselves, Virgo stops helping. Bear in mind that there are certain feelings that all youth go through, feelings relating to trying to discover who one is, and trying to find an internal sense of self-esteem. Until we get into our late 20's we often misunderstand who we actually are, because we tend to deny or reject having qualities that we do not "approve" of. It is very normal for people, when they are young, to question their Sun-sign. But I need to ask you .. have you taken a look at your birth chart? If you feel like a Virgo, is your Moon or Ascendant in Virgo? Or Venus? Or do you have 3+ planets in the 6th house? Or is Saturn strongly aspecting any of the personal planets (which would give that grounded sense of reality and practicality that Virgo has).

The planets are said to represent different influences. Mars-the God of war-means strength or fighting, Venus-love and beauty. When the planet falls inside-or appers to be inside-your Zodiac sign, the characteristics are supposed to show up in your life.
