Its pretty obvious women and men have differences not only in the body but in the mind. So besides trying to get equal rights in the workplace, what is the point?

2006-12-24 16:56:32 · 18 answers · asked by s h 1 in Social Science Gender Studies

sufi...Ok, but what about leaving it up to the individual?

Just as men have no right to oppress women, certain women have no right to oppress their utopian view on the family structure.

If some people want their wives in their house at home and the wife accepts...it should not be like OMG!.

If you want equal rights, that's fine with me, but it seems to me like its a very 'taunting' philosophy...like uptight---

if you want those rights, just get them---fight for them...

But you also have to remmember, that America is a democracy...And just as people should respect your view of how a courtroom should be run for example, so should you respect other people's views of how a courtroom should run.

I am all for women in workforce and courtroom, what I don't like, is this over-ly aggressive front, represented by feminism, that just causes animosity amongst the genders and actually makes relationships worse, than more open and less uptight.

The points you gave are balanced though

There are a lot of good answers here. It makes me happy that so many are wising up the lies feminism has been telling for the last 40 years.

That's primarily the point of feminism: lies. Feminism claims to be about "equality." It is not. Feminism has, and always will be, about securing more privileges for women at the expense of men.

Take that one chick above who talked about how it's for "equality in the courtroom." Uh huh, sure lady. Never mind that women receive lighter sentences for committing the same crimes men commit. Never mind that women are almost guaranteed sole custody or primary custody of a child in a divorce. Never mind that a woman can sue a company for "harassment" to tune of several million dollars. No, no, you need still more privileges. Right.

Or how about another thing she said: equality at home? What the hell does that even mean? We have laws on spousal rape, meaning if she says no, it's still punished just as harshly as being dragged in to the bushes and being raped by a stranger (men, of course, are rarely protected under this law). And it's not like there is any law that forces a woman to do housework, or even to get a job. And since divorces are initiated by women 75% of the time, and women are most likely to cash-in in court (discussed above), they can leave any time they want.

So what's left? Equality under the law? We even have a constitutional amendment for that one, for Christ's sake. Equality in pay? When men and women work the same jobs, the same hours, with the same experience, women are often paid MORE than men. Any sort of "pay gap" that a feminist will tell you about is arrived at by computing the lifetime earnings of men versus women. And since men work more hours, more dangerous jobs, and more years of their life, THEY EARN MORE. But even though women once again end up with the good deal, they want more. Always more.

So what is there to complain about, lady? Short answer: nothing. But a feminist is forever willing to make up a lie and then complain about it.

So I guess feminism has two points, really. Hope that answered your question!

People truly have feminism twisted and use the most visible male hating females as examples of what feminists represent. Them and a lot of other lesbian feminists that are anti-male are not all feminists that see the the true goal of feminism as the end of rigid gender roles and equal oppurtunities, not female superiority. A lot of people don't like feminists but if it weren't for them, women wouldn't enjoy the freedoms that they do today and would be living their lives at the mercy of someone else and who wants to live like that? The results of feminism are different from what their goals were and unfortunately has come as a double edge sword.

Although it might have started out about hundred years ago about equality, the current movement that started in the late 60's/early 70's is not about equality...no matter what some feminist tells you. When you look at all the things feminists are fighting for and trash-talking about, it becomes clear that the main point of feminism is to destroy the family unit in America. The kids are targetted, the husband is targetted, the traditional structure is targetted...not much left to try and take down. Most feminists are so stuck on what they THINK they get out of the deal that they don't see (or, rather, refuse to see) the consequences of it all. What they get out of the deal is also a lie...so all that's really left is the wake of destruction.

That's it. That's the point. equal rights in the work place. But also feminism works toward dispelling societal biases that would suggest that women are inherently inferior, BECAUSE of our biological differences. And feminism works towards bringing awareness to women's issues...domestic violence, rape, etc. This is not to say that men can not be victims of domestic violence, or even rape, but the focus for feminism is women...just because something is "pro-women" does not mean it is "ant-male."
And what "Serin" says about the "pay gap" is simply not true...THAT'S anti-feminist (and anti-female) propaganda at work. The gap exists between men and women who have EQUAL EXPERIENCE, EQUAL EDUCATION, and EQUAL HOURS WORKED. HE has no basis for his statements other than his own assumptions.

The main point of feminism is a belief in the equal worth of all human beings.
In many areas of the world women are still paid less than men for equivalent work, hold much less political and economic power, and are often the subject of intense social pressure to conform to relatively traditional gender expectations.

The point is women would still be chained to the kitchen sink, without receiving a proper education and would probably have very few rights if feminism never existed.

HTH : )

Feminism has never been about hating men. In the broadest sense, I believe it means working on keeping men from harming women, and children, and other livings things. Above all, the great majority of violence is cause by men. Women and other feminists must constantly question the basic assumptions about the origins of violence. Otherwise, death wins...

As a guy, let me try to explain. First, you need to read the book "A Woman's Worth" by Marianne Williamson.

The empowerment of women is the point. Equal rights in the workplace is only the tip of the iceberg and it is only in the political arena. I see feminism as an internal issue with external impact. It involves dispelling a plethora of myths about women and empowering them with a sense of who they truly are and how to achieve that identify without shame or regrets. That comes from them. Even this is only the tip of the iceberg and from the viewpoint of a guy.

The point is to get equal opportunities for both men and women in all areas of their lives... work, home, leisure activities.

The point simply is getting attention. This is the desire of all women.

Some women get the attention by their good looks, some by their charming personality. among those who do not get this attention in either of the two ways, and have vengence in their heart, they are the ones who join the feminist movement. In doing so, the lose the femininity within themselves.

A woman woman void of feminity, is a pathtic creature indeed.
