Oh God I have to say I have the same experience when I went to one of my female friend's home. Her mom even used her high heels to hit her face.First of all, such things are intolerant! But as she is still just your girlfriend but not your wife or...you can't do things like teaching her mom a lesson. But you can try to protect her as much as you can! This may be much more useful for a girl in such situation. And try to talk to her mother, see if she can be politer if you are around. If all the things can't work out,I still don't think you should have the cops there since this may hurt the mother as well as the daughter unless she is out of mind and hitting her daughter like a crazyman even though you tried to stop him.Call the police without hesitation!

Vengence is mine saith the Lord....but seriously, if the mom's abusive and the g/f is of age...she should leave and not look back until mom gets her "chit" together. If she's a minor, deal w/ the cops and protect your g/f's life. But they do have safe houses for true victims of abuse. Call one!
Nothing you can do to the mom to "teach" her love, compassion or respect.

u need to talk to her about the consquences of abuse and how to express her feelings rather then to lash out and if that doesn't work you'll have to call the cops.

That would have to depend on why her Mom hit her.She might
have deserved it.
Think before you act rashly.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a nice day.
Thank you very much, while you're up!!!
