I changed out of my shoes the other day after work to go to happy hour and ended up in argyle socks and birkenstock clogs. I was also wearing a nice pair of chinos and a collared shirt. My buddy gave me a lot of flak for doing this and told me it was a huge no no. A girl in the bar also confirmed this. I don't think it looked bad and I am a pretty fashion conscious guy...what do you guys think?

I am sorry, darling, but your missus is wrong on this one. Your argyle socks sound fabulous. There is one thing we must address, however, and that is your choice of silk shirt to go with the leisure suit. I trust you found a nice floral print? If not, then you need to ignore the suit, shoes and socks and find a nice floral print silk shirt in nice lime and orange sherbet colors to go with the ensemble. Anything else, like a plain shirt, or a solid shirt, is unacceptable. Also, your missus sounds like she needs some help. Please make sure she is wearing proper footwear with her lovely flowered shift. If she doesn't know what that is, it's those lovely sandals with the velcro straps--I suggest tan, as it is the loveliest of colors and looks great with white ankle socks. If she wants to add a touch of color for a festive look (it is, after all, your anniversary), perhaps she could skip the ankle socks and get the little athletic ones with the pompoms. That is truly lovely, and I am sure you will make a delightful couple. Enjoy!

If you live in a city, it's probably wrong. People in cities have nothing else to think about except how you dress.

Now if you were in Wyoming, it would be ok. Men and women run around with sandals and socks (usually in the summer). Believe it or not, folks here have better things to do than check what you are wearing on your feet. When you meet someone, it's more likely you are looking at the top half.

Biggest turn off I know of. Ranks right up there with polyester pants.
Get a clue, dude, don't do this again unless you are in an anti-women state of mind and want to repel the females-believe me, it will work. Yuck!
(But glad you asked, as I see this all the time here in Ca., and it is one thing I will never, ever get used to or get over.)
Merry Christmas, hope you get some closed shoes that you like enough to look well with those chinos!

I think you're an east coast liberal. You should know better than to wear sandals in December, OY! Birkenstock clogs, how gay. And argyles. This is clearly a spoof. Congratulations, fruit.

I think that the birks with a plain sock might have been ok...I think that the argyles were pushing the envelope a little.
