As a fan of peircings I have to voice the "this is a bad idea to do it yourself at home" but at the same time I'll respect that it's your choice and you're going to do it regardless of people telling you not to. So I might as well give you advice:
1) use a sterile needle NOT a home peircing gun! guns are incredibly bad for peircing anything except the earlobes
2) peirce it from the outside in, but becareful not to prick your finger with the needle.
3) it's really your choice as to which side it will be on, but be sure you're happy with the placement before you actually peirce it, I suggest looking at pictures of other people with nose peircings and choose exactly where you want the hole on yourself. (check this site out for pictures http://www.bmezine.com/pierce/03-nose/bme-pg03.html )
4) it's probably not going to be the best feeling in the world but I assume it's going to be better then getting your anti tragus peirced (that hurt like heck)
5) clean it and pray it doesn't get infected.

If you HAVE to do it then do it safely. Sterilization is very very important... wiping a new unused piercing stud with alcohol will work- but alcohol will not "sterilize" a dirty blood infested safety pin! A very very small safety pin could work, but DO NOT USE IT AS JEWELRY. The pain factor really just depends on you. I think doing piercings any where but my ears myself hurts worse than a pro. Put something like a small tampon or a balled up paper towel on the inside of your nose, hold the nostril steady with one hand and push straight through with the other. Good luck

You shouldn't use an earring for a nose piercing. The kit at Walmart is only for ear lobe piercings, and even then, I wouldn't use it for that. You need to have it done with a needle and proper jewelry.

it will hurt when the jewelry first pushes through, the same as it did your ears. i would say from outside in. my friend pierced my labret at his house, and i didn't have any problems. be sure to keep the area clean, and don't mess with the piercing any more than to clean it. (dial soap, no alcohol) and you probably already know not to change it for about a month. you'll be fine. you can always let it heal if you don't like it.

You'd better do some more professional research than just here.
The risk for infection is off the charts with this one,
Please be very careful, very thorough in your research, and Merry Christmas too!

OUCH!! If you want to pierce your nose at home, maybe you could ask a friend to be there in case something goes wrong. Make sure you have hydrogen peroxide and alcohol (kills germs). Most people that I know who sport an nose ring, wears it in the right nostril.

My sister pierced my nose at home. She used a baby earring and a piercing gun. It didn't really hurt until the gun got stuck in my nose.

Eww.... You could get infected really easily....
But anyway for nose piercing, it hurts more because you have more nerve endings there than in your ear.

Well okay... go ahead. i want to do it myself to. you pierce from the outside, and you pierce it on your right side. But if you get sick, it will get infected on the outside and it will look hella nasty. just so you know.
