About 35 cents per gallon.

I've read conflicting accounts as to actual dollar amount, though after a little research I'd have to say it cost the same then as it does now. I know everyone reading this says "Bullsh*t!", but even though the same gallon of gas that cost perhaps 30 cents a gallon back then now costs $2.25 it is still the same. What most people forget to take into account is the VALUE. Almost anything that cost around 30 cents then costs two dollars or more now. Gas hasn't really changed too much, what has changed is the value of the American Dollar. It takes more dollar notes to purchase things today than it used to due to inflation. The misconception that gas has suddenly become more expensive is only due to the fact that the Dollar is losing value faster than we are used to. And yet we are being paid close to the same wages that we recieved back in the 1970s even though gas and pretty much everything else has risen in cost (NOT VALUE-it's not the same thing). For some reason we are expected to make it on a deminished value of our wages. It doesn't matter if the next president raises minimum wage if the value of the dollar continues to plummet.
Sorry I'll step down from my soap-box now and rejoin the disgruntled masses.

From being a motorist in 1968, 30 to 35 cents a gallon and some gas stations gave you a free drinking glass.

I was living in Sacramento at that time and there was a gas war and prices were down as low as 17 cents a gallon (we normally paid about a quarter a gallon)

About 29 to 35 cents a gallon depending on the brand and where you bought it. If memory serves.
