Christ was born in the fall and Christmas was first celebrated as Yule or Solstice by the Pagans.....thousands of years before Christ was born. Early Christians changed it to Dec to convert the Pagans and make it easier to control their members. Pagans give gifts during Yule. And Pagan worshipped the trees or used them in their rituals as they believed that Gods, Faeries etc lived in the trees.

Will to get the pagans to convert the holy Roman Church or the Catholic Church decided to incorporate some of the customs of the pagan faith into what has now become Christmas. What a better way to get people to convert to your religion than add a bit of their faith into yours. Just rename the holiday and there you have it Christmas. Christmas falls right on or near the winter solstice which is a pagan holiday to celebrate the shortest day of the year December 21 with partying and gift giving. So that how Christmas became Christmas but actually despite the fact it came from a pagan holiday, we should be happy that we have such a holiday how else would every middle class American and Canadian would remember the poor if it wasn't for a holiday be what ever it name is. Because it's only during this time of the year do any of these people, of higher living standards than the poor, ever remember their less fortunate brothers and sister but this time of the year. It's sad that it takes a holiday like this what ever it's name is or how the holiday came apart to remember those in need but once and year.

OK to all the idiots trying to answer this question it is true that it was originally a Pagan holiday. The Roman festivals: Saturnalia, the Consualia, the Lupercalia and the rites of the Bona Dea were around long before the Christians (or Jesus) came. The Catholic Church was trying to estimate the birth of Jesus, but there was no written record of it. So the Council of Trent decided to place it on the pagan holiday of the Roman sun god Dies Natalis Invicti Solis celebrating the winter solstice. As for the forcing of the join ing the church I have no comment as I am not of that denomination.
The tradition of having a Christmas Tree in our homes came from the Germans a celebration of the renewal of life. The only tree alive in the winter was the evergreen so the ancient Germans would bring then into their homes in the winter to celebrate Life.
Once again the Catholics came in and took the pagan act and adopted it to represent the renewal of life (or the act of being able to be renewed) through the Christ Jesus.
But as the years went on (aka American corporations) it became a Commercial season as to how could sell the most.
We all need to remember the REAL reason behind the season: Jesus' birth.
Now to you all whether your Christian, Jew, or Muslim.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

this is were Santa ,christmas and the tree came from, and more

the christians stole the holiday and superimposed it on a Pagan holiday because they were forcible converting Pagans to Christianity

the story of the tree came from a Pagan Roman tree worshipping cult ,and the ever green was choosen because it symbolized eternal life ,
this cult was based on a phalic worshipping cult who worshipped the golden penis of Horus(who was the symbolic humanized representation of the new born Sun.)his body was cut into many pieces and scattered all over the land ,Isis his sister put him together again by magic but could not find his penis and so made him a golden one,
many centuries later the concept was used in a religion

Santa Claus comes from Laplander tradition,
they used to follow the raindeer ,that ate the Amanita Muscara (mushroom of death),and caught the golden urine into a bowel ,
this they drank and they got very high
the drug at first gives the sensation of evaporation of the body leaving the head to the last .and people thought that they could fly ,and many ended up in the chimney trying to get to the roof.
this is why Santa comes down the chimney and has flying raindeer .
the drug cult was turned into folklore and adopted by the Christians ,to entice the pagans into Christianity.

All Christian Holidays ,originally were Pagan,
like the first of May(Easter) Halloween and Thanks giving ,as well as Christmas.

Saint Nicolaas was a Spanish Bishop who comes on the 5th of December, whose story was based on a Turkish bishop who was kind to the poor ,this was such a rare thing ,that he was rembered for ever.
he had two black slaves ,who gave sweets to the good kids ,and beat the bad ones with twiggs,And he sat on a White Spanish Horse
.
He had Nothing to do with Santa Claus as some People suggest.
Saint Nicolaas would not dream of coming down the chiney and he wore a miter and a long robe ,Santa claus was wearing Artic clothes and comes on the 24th of december, they are coincidentally both red .

and now you do not need to be confused any more

You ask who decided to reassign Dec.25 to Jesus? Some Pope in about 385AD, I hear.

Christmas as it exists today, with Santa, Rudolph and the gang, was created by American corporations. In other words, Greed is the real Father Christmas. These companies reap a fat reward by encouraging a last-minute false atmosphere of scarcity, along with a ravenous compulsion to purchase. Of course, knowing that people usually see through such tactics, the main strategy has been to blind people with nostalgia and emotion.

The history of Christmas is a little more interesting though. If you really want to know the substance of this day's meaning in history, you can find great resources on Mithraism and Saturn-worship online. Try Wikipedia.org, I suggest.

Actually the time for "Christmas" was actually stolen from the Pagens. This time of the year was used to celibrate Winter Solstice. It was actually the Catholics....a pope to be precise....who turned Winter Solstice into Christmas for the birth of Christ.

It is once again a simple example of how the Catholics have raped other religions and groups and twisted their beliefs to make the Catholic religion reign supreme. Just as the Bible was written by man these "holy" holidays were also created by man.

Christmas is supposed to be about the birth of Jesus Christ. Now day people forget the real meaning behind Christmas and make it all about the presents. They reason presents all got started was because the three wise mean brought gifts when Jesus was born. Now people just like to go over board with all the gifts. It's turned into a hallmark event. I just think as long as you are truly celebrating Christ ,the rest doesn't matter.

In the winter we celebrate humankind’s oldest holiday, a festival of days of increasing sunlight. In the fourth century, the Christian church began to celebrate Christmas on December 25, adapting
a Roman holiday that in turn was built on ancient traditions of celebrating the Solstice. This is/was a pagan holiday the Christians decided to use or to overshadow.

Yes it is true. Jesus was born around the spring. But people celebrate on a special day. So everybody know's when to celebrate it and at the same time. Sadly now more people forget the true meaning and think it's all about Santa Claus and getting presents.

Merry Christmas!!!
