the ipod video is hard drive based, so if you drop it on a hard surface you're likely to break it... the nano and shuffle are flash based... they dont have a hard drive, and they also have a sturdy aluminum casing... so the chances of breaking them are less... but hey...don't go around dropping them....

All i can tell you is that my cousin has an ipod video and for some odd reason the screen broke. We don't know how but anyway she returned it and Apple returned it saying it was our fault even if we did have a year warranty. So just take good care of it and don't count too much on the warranty.

Your Ipod will be fine as long you handle it with care (dont drop it! dont put it on your pocket with coins or things which may scratch it's delicate finish). A wise thing to do is have a metal or silicon casing to protect it from scratches.

It should last for years, unless you drop it. One drop and the hard drive inside will likely be damaged and it will no longer work.

They break easily especially if you are rough on your belongings. My son has been thru 3 of them in 2 years.
