I need the name of a famous person who was known to have died lonely, longing for an unrequited love perhaps. Someone who was notoriously unlucky in love, who perhaps lived out a long, lonely life pining for a love that never materialized.
Preferably, a writer/author or film star... 10 big fat points to the person with the most helpful name(s)! THANKS!

Frédéric Chopin, "The Father Of The Piano", and genius composer of music for the piano lived a very lonely and sad life.

He had a turbulent 10-year relationship with the French writer George Sand (Baroness Dudevant) from 1837 to 1847. She refused to come to visit him when he was on his death bed, although he sacrificed his health by following her to Majorca where the weather exacerbated the progress of his disease. She treated him cruelly and with distain, breaking his heart.

Always in fragile health, he succumbed to pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 39. IMHO,the greatest composer who ever lived.

The problem with this question is that you could pick just about any famous dead person in the world, including a fictional one. Here is my incomplete list of real people: Mozart, Queen Elizabeth I of England, Princess Diana of England, Jean-Paul Sartre, Jonathan Swift, Vincent van Gogh, Franz Kafka, Indira Gandhi (prime minister of India), Eva Peron of Argentina, Walt Disney, Tupac Shakur, Ray Charles, Albert Einstein, Charles Goodyear, River Phoenix, Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Kurt Cobain, the pilots who dropped the only 2 nuclear bombs ever to be used in the history of the world, innumerable Holocaust survivors, Marilyn Monroe, and on and on.

If you are looking for fictional characters: Romeo and Juliet, Oedipus Rex, Achilles, The Duchess of Malfi, Shylock, Eleanor Rigby, the lead characters of movies like Beaches; Steel Magnolias; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Philadelphia Story; Leaving Las Vegas; Life is Beautiful; and others.

I hope this helps, a little.
