It was working fine 2 days ago and now the only thing that works is the light. It started by making this clicking/beeping sound and now it doesn't dispense any water or ice. My waterline is NOT disconnected, so I cant figure out what's wrong. Please help! It's a GE Clean Steel side by side fridge.

It sounds like the circuit board that controls the ice and water function has gone bad. Call for service. There is nothing that can be done to make it work temporarily.

We had this same problem and after hiring someone to fix it a couple times I watched what the repairman did. It may be different with your model but look to see if it can work.

We have a clear plastic hose (about 1/2 inch diameter) that comes out of the back of the freezer and goes into the icemaking machine. If you can find this and it feels crunchy or filled with ice that may be what is stopping the water flow. If this seems to be the problem try this:

Turn the water flow off first. Either lift the metal piece that triggers the flow or shut it off if you can from the hose that feeds the refrigerator.

If you can loosen the plastic tube and pull it out of its place, run water through it until it is empty. Then let it dry COMPLETELY and dry it inside with something that doesn't leave any lint, and re-insert it where it came from.

Turn the water flow on again and listen to see if it sounds like water is going through again. Check it in a short time to see if ice is being made. If not turn it back off again and find some better information than I am giving you.

It may not be permanent fix, but it could make it work until the holidays are over.

One guy told us that if your electricity goes off, it can create condensation in the tube that later turns to ice and then blocks the flow. Think about this if you live somewhere the electricity is off and on without you being home. We used to live in a condo and they turned it off whenever anyone was having some work done. We never thought this could be a problem for just an hour or so.

Good luck

Does it have a filter? When did you change it last? If you know this is not the problem, next check for water. Turn the water valve off at the wall, and disconnect the water line at the fridge. Now get a bucket, put the end of the hose you just disconnected into the bucket, and turn the water valve on. Sometimes sediment will clog the tube. If you have water, it is probably the solenoid valve. This is where the water line connects at the back of the fridge. It is usually brass color with a blue cap, with 2 wires connecting to the wiring harness. You will need to take it with you to an appliance parts house, to ensure you get the proper replacement.

Does it have a rod on it that will shut the ice maker off when the container is full; the rod will trip a switch when the container is full by staying up. Sometimes one end of the rod may come out of its clip and not engage the switch when the ice level is low. Check you water filter, too; if it is clogged it will disrupt the flow of water into the ice maker.

Call the Manufacture.

better to get the manufacturer to send their technician to check out the fault, rather than stripping them apart to self investigate.
